Fun Friday: The Home Edition

Hey everyone! Happy Friday! Hope you all had a great week! One more day until my weekend! I decided to do a different Fun Friday today :) I thought it would be fun to peruse Pinterest and find some cool interior design ideas that reflect my personality and how I’d love to decorate my own place :) I also included some beautiful locations that I would love to have as my own home.

So here are some fun designs that I love!! Please note: As always with Pinterest, some of the links don’t go to a website so I’ll do the best I can to credit the photos.

How gorgeous is this outside patio type area? It’s so warm and cozy. I really love the couch seating, the plants and the lighting. It’s such an inviting space and I feel like I could definitely do some pretty sweet entertaining in a space like this. Lots of margaritas to be consumed on those couches, ha! Oh and there would be a fire pit somewhere in the yard as well. Because I’m obsessed with fire pits.

Ok, so let’s pretend the random child isn’t there. I’m OBSESSED with this kitchen. It is so gorgeous. I love the brightness that the white gives it. I like this shade of blue but I never imagined I would decorate with blue so instead of the blue accents I’d have bright pink and orange accents. I love that color combination and I think it would be so pretty in the kitchen :) O.B.S.E.S.S.E.D.

How rich and beautiful are these colors? I really love the silvery couch with the jewel tone accents. It would be really pretty to switch up the accents in the spring/summer with some brighter colors too. How cool is the chandelier?! I find this room to be really rich and elegant but also fun and colorful at the same time. I think it has a perfect balance :)

Do I really even have to say anything? The gorgeous view, the rich colors, the bright airiness, the comfortable furniture. It’s perfect. Do you see the black pillow on the couch with the pink and white design? Love it. Oh, and did you see the view?! ;)

Loft + Fire pit = AMAZEBALLS. That’s all.

Love this area! It would be the perfect location for my ideal picnic! Imagine some fun backyard games set up in the grassy area behind the pit. Love it.

I really love bright spaces like this one. Lots of windows are definitely a huge plus for me. I really love the bright, openness of the room. I’d probably try to figure out a way to add a little more color but I think this room is gorgeous. I could definitely drink a lot of tea by that fireplace.
I could go on forever but I’ll stop here. I think the best words to describe my preferences and aesthetic would be bright, colorful, fun, a little whimsical and a little classic. Oh if I could have that kitchen I’d be a happy happy girl :)
That’s all for this week’s Fun Friday post! I hope you all enjoyed it! Have a great Friday night and I hope that you all enjoy your weekend!

Hey everyone! Hope you are all doing well. I figured I’d pop in to show you some yummy things I’ve been eating (and drinking). Can’t believe it’s Thursday already! I feel like this week went by so quickly!

So here’s what I’ve eaten so far today.

Breakfast was a large mason jar full of peach mango juice. OMG it was so good! I juiced 3 champagne mangos and 4 ripe peaches. Definitely got a nice amount of juice from it. I would have run it through a strainer if I had time but I forgot how long it takes to juice (prep and cleaning time included) so I didn’t have time before I had to leave for work.

I snacked on a few of these little pluots (they are pretty teeny, just photograph larger). I love these things.

For lunch I had a hummus sandwich on gluten free tortilla with sun dried tomato, carrots and lots of romaine. Sorry for the crappy blurry pic, I was rushing :)

For dinner I plan on making a large salad. It’s too hot for me to attempt to deal with it now lol.

Oh and an update on my Vegan Cuts box! I was thinking about it and since I don’t know what the allergy situation is I didn’t know if the Snack Box is the best idea right now so the lovely people at Vegan Cuts canceled my Snack Box and I subscribed for the Beauty Box instead!! I’m really excited about it since I’m so spazzy about beauty products (and one of my goals as I head into my 30s is to learn more about beauty products/makeup/hair) and it is a great value. The only catch is that the July box was sold out so I had to subscribe for the August box. I’m so impatient but I know it’ll be worth the wait!

So that’s all I’ve got for today. I’ll be back tomorrow with a Fun Friday post! I have a fun one planned… well hopefully you’ll find it fun! ;) Have a great night friends!

Lovely Lunch

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a nice Monday :) I spent my morning cleaning like a mad woman. This includes vacuuming every inch of my bed (mattress, frame, etc), de-cluttering my room and washing all of my bedding. All I need to do now is vacuum my floor and molding. Oy!

I was able to take a break to meet a friend out for lunch. I had such a nice time! We ended up having a leisurely (almost 4 hour) lunch which was really lovely. I only have pictures of that meal from today (go figure the only pics I have are the awkward ones you have to take at a restaurant) but I’m hoping to stop being so lazy about photographing them tomorrow.

I had a really tasty Strawberry Lemonade as my beverage. In my exact words upon tasting it “this is fucking delightful.” LOL and there is my personality in exactly one sentence ;)

For lunch I had the Sesame Tofu which is basically sesame crusted tofu with a stir fry in a spicy sauce over brown rice. It was really good. I’ll probably have the rest for lunch tomorrow.

On my way home from lunch I passed a restaurant supply store that I’ve been meaning to go to so I stopped in. I was able to pick up the two things I’ve been looking for:

A large wooden salad bowl and a 16 oz mason jar for smaller, sweet juices. I found them both (and was in heaven with all of the cool stuff!) and got them for… wait for it… a combined total of $3.75! I’m so glad I decided to try this place before any of the more expensive stores. I need to go back when I have time to check out all of the cool stuff they have.

Finally, after seeing Gabby’s Instagram post I decided to sign up for a Vegan Cuts Snack Box subscription! I think it’ll be a great way to be able to try new products that I can’t get my hands on or that I wouldn’t otherwise try! I’ll get my first box at the end of July :) For only $19.95/month it’s a great deal!

That’s all I’ve got for today! I hope you all had a great Monday!

Small Grocery Haul

Hey everyone! I am just popping in to show you a small grocery haul. I decided to drop 80/10/10 because it was stressing me out and I didn’t need any more stress on top of my insane allergies. I also think Sophie was 100% correct when she said in a comment, “just do what feels right for you. It doesn’t have to have a label or be specific.” I try so hard to do everything by the book and I am missing the bigger picture. So I’ve decided to just stick to a mostly raw, low fat diet. So far it’s been working out well. No labels, no guidelines, just what I want to eat. I’ll show you a full day of food tomorrow.

For now, here’s my small grocery haul. I went grocery shopping today and I’m going to clean like crazy tomorrow.

I finally got my zucchini. Four tiny ones… the last four in the store! What’s going on with the lack of zucchini availability? I also got some collards (look how huge the leaves look! Perfect for wrapping lots of yumminess, dontcha think? ;) ), huge carrots, basil, garlic and yellow squash.

They had yummy little organic pluots so I picked some up along with Good Belly and some fresh apricots (inspired by Laura!)!

I have some yummy stuff planned so definitely check back in tomorrow for some meals. Thankfully the swelling in my throat has gone down quite a bit and it’s a lot more comfortable now. If I feel ok tomorrow I’ll try to get to the gym in the evening after my cleaning extravaganza ;)

Hope you all have a great day!

Fun Friday: My Perfect Picnic

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven’t been around for the past few days… believe it or not my allergies have been acting up so much that my throat and tongue have been totally swollen for the past week or so. It got really uncomfortable by Tuesday night when I ran to the Urgent Care place near by. I was told to take an antihistamine and use nasal spray and it’s finally starting to feel better. I also made an appointment with an allergist because I feel like that’s not a normal response to seasonal allergies. The appointment isn’t until mid-July though, wah!

Anyway, I decided to pop in for a Fun Friday post! A few weeks ago Sage suggested a Fun Friday post with my idea of the perfect Vegan Picnic! I thought it was such a cute idea with the summer in full swing (and because I can’t do a real picnic since my allergies are so crazy!) so here it goes!! This would be my idea for a perfect “girls only” picnic. A few close friends, some yummy food, drinks and a beautiful location… Sounds pretty ideal to me!

Salads usually make an appearance at a picnic and I think that this one is perfect! This is Gabby’s Shredded Brussels Sprout Salad and it is so delicious. It tastes even better the more it marinates in the dressing, and to me it resembled a really lovely cole slaw (without the gross mayo). It would definitely be my top choice for a picnic!

Since this is my ideal picnic, my ideal picnic location would have a way to heat your food. When I was a kid we used to have picnics all the time at parks that had BBQs and whatnot so just imagine that heating elements are present ;)

Anyway, my ideal picnic meal would be this amazing looking Adult Grilled Cheese: Veganized of course!! Get rid of the dairy cheese and replace with Daiya… that’s an easy swap. Now, I didn’t realize the red was pepperoni, I was under the impression it was tomato. So since that was what I was thinking anyway, I’d replace the pepperoni with yummy tomatoes.

Whole New Mom’s Dorito Flavored Popcorn would be a great snack.

And so would these Carmel Candied Cinnamon Crunchy Chickpeas. Mmmm.

You can’t have a picnic without fruit! I think this is an adorable way to serve fruit. Just bring cones separately and spoon beautiful fresh fruit in! So fun!

For a chocolate finish, how about some Samoas Girl Scout Cookie Pie? Sounds good to me!

Full yet? Enter the beverages ;) (water is an obvious, we’re just talking the fun stuff here!)

Trader Joe’s Sparkling Pink Lemonade and Sparkling Limeade.

For those of us that would like something with a little kick, Hippie Juice would definitely be on the menu ;) I’d make a few changes though. I don’t like artificial watermelon flavor so I’d scrap the watermelon vodka and use fresh watermelon juice instead of water :) Mmmm.

The location:

There are two locations that I think would be perfect. First is my backyard. I know it’s technically not a picnic if it’s in my backyard (is it?) but it has room, I’d have access to my kitchen and we’d be able to listen to music and play games and do whatever we wanted to do.

If I were to have an on location picnic it would probably be at one of the parks that I used to go to as a kid. Back then I’d be on my rollerblades all the time or I’d be playing with my Skip-It (the original skip it with the counter… no knock offs for this chick). Nowadays my girls and I would be pumping some fun music, playing a little volleyball, soaking in some Vitamin D, chatting and chowing down.

Finally, some fun details that I’d add:

As you know, I love my mason jars. I LOVE the above idea of using an inverted cupcake liner as your covering for the jar and just punching the straw in. It keeps your drink covered but with a cute pop of color! Love this.

Finally, we’d use To-Go Ware utensils. They are made of bamboo, reusable, and would be the perfect little gift for all of my friends attending the picnic.

So there you have it, my ideal picnic! Who’s coming? ;)

I hope you all have a great Friday! One more work day until my weekend :) Have a great night!

Hey everyone! Sooooooooo I’m just going to get right to it and I’m not going to sugar coat it… this diet kind of sucks. Well, it may actually deliver the health benefits but getting there is brutal. I’m not going to lie to you, this may be over before it begins. Well, not true. I’m debating making this “The Summer of Low Fat (Mostly) Raw.” I have to think about it tonight but I’ll share what I’ve consumed so far today…

Breakfast was a large container of cantaloupe. So far so good.

For lunch I made a huge Banana Date Shake with 4 Bananas, Dates and a little coconut water. This thing is close to 700 calories. It is also sickeningly sweet. When eating mostly sweet meals for a day…. the last thing I need is for one to be obscenely sweet.

Pre dinner snack was a couple of large Pink Lady Apples…

Everything all packed and ready to go. Two BPA free bottles of filtered water to sip on as well.

So that’s where I am now… the sweet meals have made me nauseous and I have no room for the giant salad I’m going to make. I’m only two days in and I just don’t like it. After actually doing it I just don’t think it’s realistic for me to maintain… I feel like I spend all day at work eating, the sweet is too much and making me feel gross… I think I need to tweak my raw summer plans and include more veggies throughout the day and a probably a few clean, cooked foods. I’ll have to figure it out. You know I would normally try to stick it out a little longer if I feel like I’ll be miserable and I’d be better off tweaking it a bit to make it more manageable. I think I’d see more success doing that than trying to stick something out that I just don’t see working or being maintainable. Oh and it will be impossible for me to store a week’s worth of groceries in my house so I’d be running to the grocery store every ten minutes… also not ideal!

Oy, I guess we’ll see. Sorry to give up before it began but I just have this feeling that this isn’t the path for me. I’ll be back with a better plan, one that I will be able to keep up :)

I hope you all have a great night! I have to figure out how I’m going to get a huge salad in my belly, ha.

Raw Grocery Haul and Some Presents

Hey guys! Here I am with my first 80/10/10 grocery haul. This one isn’t huge because I have some frozen fruit and some fruit left in my fridge. I have a feeling I’m going to run out before the end of the week but I think it’ll take a little time to get the hang of how much to buy, how to rotate and keep as much fresh as possible. With all that said, check out what I got!

Ok so veggies first: 3 heads of romaine, green onion, 2 large cucumbers, 8 tomatoes, and a container of sun-dried tomatoes ($1.80!!). I was intending on getting zucchini and yellow squash as well but they didn’t have any (wtf?!) so I’ll grab some later in the week or next week.

2 bunches of bananas, dates ($4.99 for that big container of DELILAH(!!) dates!), 5 pink lady apples (to join a few I already have), and 4 peaches for a treat. I also have 3 pears and…

the piece de resistance…

A CASE OF 16 CHAMPAGNE MANGOES!!!! The best part of this lovely purchase? I got it for $7.99. That’s right, 16 mangoes for 8 bucks. I won’t lie, I was a little smug when I saw that Whole Foods was selling a single Champagne Mango for $1.79. Lesson of the week. Shop at the Asian Market as much as possible! That’s where I got the inexpensive mangoes, sun-dried tomatoes and dates. Yup.

So I decided that I wanted to buy myself some gifts to make this transition easier on myself :) I went to Kohl’s after Whole Foods and not surprisingly they had nothing that I was looking for. I wanted to get two of the three things from Kohl’s because I inherited a gift card from my mom since she doesn’t shop there. So I came home and ordered these two things online (photos taken from the Kohl’s website):

This is a 3-in-1 Vegetable Peeler. I wanted this one because it has a Julienne Peeler which is a great way to make zucchini noodles without a spiralizer. It kind of worked out perfectly since the store didn’t even have zucchini so I don’t have to worry about waiting for shipping.

I also got a 5-inch Ceramic Knife for chopping all of my beautiful produce! I’ve heard that ceramic knives are really great for a bunch of reasons including it’s sharpness, durability, hardness, weight (they are lightweight) and it doesn’t give your food a metallic taste. I can’t wait to start chopping with this. I should have it by next week :)

I only paid $20 out of pocket for these things which is really good. The last present I’m going to buy myself is a big salad bowl (bamboo or wood). I want to do this at the store though since I’m pretty picky and I want to be able to see the size so I’ll be getting to Bed Bath & Beyond (my favorite store ever) soon to check it out!

And before I go… yesterday my family spent Father’s Day together so you know I have to show you some adorable Delilah pics!

Chowing down on some yummy corn!!

She is so funny. She’s only two and a half and she’s incredibly smart and incredibly funny :) And of course she has the most beautiful face ever! Love this kid :)

And that’s all I’ve got for today. I’ll be back tomorrow to show you what a day of 80/10/10 looks like! I hope you all have a great Monday :)

Fun Friday: The Hawaii Edition!!

Hey everyone! I’m so excited about this week’s Fun Friday post! I’ve always wanted to travel to Hawaii (the island of Oahu) to experience all of the natural beauty and culture. I recently made the decision that I want to actively save money so I can take a trip there to celebrate my birthday next year. I have 15 months to save, a plan and a whole lot of inspiration. This post is partially inspired by Sage’s recent post about dream vacations :) I had made this decision just a week or two before her post but after reading it I thought it would be fun for a Friday post! Let’s check out the inspiration!

source (this is the best I can do for the source since that is where the link from Pinterest took me)

Do I even need to say why this photo is inspiration? ;) It’s idyllic and so stunning. Probably photoshopped a bit but I don’t care!

While all of the beaches of Hawaii are spectacular, the one that intrigues me the most is the North Shore of Oahu. As a fan of surfing it has been a dream to visit Banzai Pipeline to see the big wave surfers on one of the heaviest and most dangerous waves in the world. This will certainly be on my agenda.

Something else that I’ve always dreamed of is hiking all over the island. There is no better way to discover and explore the gorgeous land than to do it on foot. I’ve actually started to really bump up my cardio at the gym. Not only do I have 15 months to save enough money for the trip, but I have 15 months to get in shape for the trip! I don’t want to be held back at all, especially not because of fitness ;)

I just wanted to include a picture of a hibiscus flower because they are my all time favorite flowers. You can tell by the tattoo on the back of my ankle ;) It was my first tattoo and I still love it. And it will be amazing to see them all over since all of the ones I see around here are all wilted and sad, ha!

OMG THE PRODUCE!!!! Can you believe how gorgeous all of it is? It is going to be amazing to visit the farmer’s markets and try all different kinds of exotic fruits that are not available to me here. I am definitely planning on trying everything I can get my hands on. When in Hawaii, right?!

I could go on and on but I’ll spare you. It is so far away but I’m so excited about it. I just need to make sure I stay on track with my savings plan. I’m going to make a Hawaii vacation vision board within the next few weeks as a visual reminder of my goals and inspiration. I will definitely share it with you when it’s all finished!

Have any of you ever been to Hawaii? Is it paradise? I get so excited just thinking about it :)

That’s all for today! I hope you all have a great Friday night and a wonderful weekend! Hopefully I’ll be able to pop in at some point. Good night!

The Summer of Raw

Hey everyone! I know it’s been a few days since I’ve posted. I actually ended up feeling really sick (again) and just haven’t felt like posting. I guess I never got rid of my bronchitis because I felt enormous pressure in my chest and even had difficulty taking a deep breath. It was pretty scary but then my cough came back which really alleviated the pressure. I’ve read it’s normal for the cough to linger for weeks after you get bronchitis so I’m just going to bear with it for now and see how I feel in a few days.

It got me thinking though. And I’m actually really afraid to say what I’m about to say because I think it’s weird so I can’t imagine how you are all going to react. But I decided that I need to really focus on eating in a way that is most efficient for my digestion and hopefully that will lead to some healing. I decided that I’m really going to try and eat (just about) fully raw for the summer. Not just any raw program though… I’m going to attempt to try the 80 10 10 Diet.

For those of you who don’t know, 80 10 10 is a low fat raw diet. You eat fruit all day and a huge green salad at night. Overt fats are consumed in limited quantities. I’ve researched this diet for months and months. I honestly think it’s weird but I’m kind of desperate. After 6 doctors, 2 MRIs, Xrays and a CT scan with nothing to show for it I really need to focus on healing my body through diet.

There are some really appealing things about this raw diet that I think will lend well to success. First, the reason I failed at my previous raw diet attempts was the fact that it took forever to make everything and plan. On this diet there is less prep and planning is a lot easier. I think that the fruit meals are a lot easier to prepare and a big salad won’t take too long to make. Second, I really really love fruit as you know so I won’t mind eating it. Lastly, I’ve seen a lot of videos from two ladies who have seen success living this lifestyle (links are later in this post) and they look healthy and happy. Their skin glows, they are super active and both were very sick prior to adopting this lifestyle.

I also understand that there are probably questions and concerns re: this diet. First, yes I’m aware that this is really weird and kind of crazy. I don’t want to be the weird chick eating a shit load of fruit. But at the same time, I don’t want to be in pain every day either. I’m aware that it will certainly affect me socially. I’m not really telling people “in real life” that I’m doing it… we’ll see if they notice.

Second, I am aware of how much I’m going to have to eat. I’ve considered this a lot and I have made some plans of ways to get all of my daily caloric needs met. You can bet I’ll be eating large portions of melon, large smoothies and calorie dense fruits to meet those needs. I am also aware that it can potentially get very expensive. I have a plan that should hopefully keep the cost down to what I usually spend for a week’s worth of groceries (my weekly fruit choices will depend on the sales at the store – and bananas will be a staple!).

I’m also approaching this with a healthy mindset (at least I think so lol!). I’m not going to be super militant about it. If my family is going out to dinner I’m not going to sit at home because there may not be a big raw salad available. If I have to eat steamed veggies or whatever I’m not going to beat myself up.  I’ll just choose the healthiest, cleanest option available. I am also walking into this knowing that this is not going to be a permanent change. I’m going to take it one month at a time with the ultimate goal being three months (until my birthday). Then I’ll see how I feel and will probably start adding grains, etc. back into my diet. Part of my timing with this is knowing that this is probably only possible for me to do in the summer.

Now as you recall, I cooked some beautiful food and bought some yummy stuff at the grocery store earlier this week. I am not a fan of wasting food so I will be easing into this new diet over the next week or two but adding in fruit meals while I finish up my cooked food. Once I finish my cooked food I’ll be adding in the large raw salad for dinner. As I’ve mentioned, I’ve been researching this for a long time (I’ve read the book as well as watched all of Megan Elizabeth’s raw food videos and Kristina’s raw food videos) so I have a pretty good plan of how I want to approach this.

Who knows, I could try it and hate it after two weeks. I’ll never know until I try. I wasn’t really going to say anything about it on here because I know that it’s a pretty controversial diet but I figured you’d all see a pretty big difference in my meals and know something was up. But for now, I’ll be finishing up my cooked food and slowly transitioning. I hope you’ll all stick around and cheer me on while I am on this journey and help me end the three month with my 30th birthday celebration. :)

I hope you don’t think I’m nuts. But if you do it is what it is I guess. I’ll be back tomorrow with a Fun Friday post and it’s a post you won’t want to miss! I promise :) I hope you all have a great night!

Monday Grocery Haul and Prep Day

Hey everyone! Hope you are all well and had a great weekend! It seems like Monday posts have turned into grocery hauls and prep! Today is no different except that I’m throwing my meals in as well :) I accomplished so much today and I’m really glad I did because I know now that this Monday prep makes all the difference in meal planning for the week.

So let’s check out the grocery haul first!

First up is the (all organic) produce! Broccoli, THREE bunches of swiss chard (I’m not making the same mistake as last week, lol!), shiitake mushrooms, honeycrisp apples, tomatoes, cauliflower and carrots.

Macro sushi, GoodBelly (LOVING this stuff!), veggie chips, chocolate covered cacao nibs (I figured it was a good way to indulge my chocolate cravings), brown rice tortillas and unsweetened organic peanut butter. Did you know it’s IMPOSSIBLE to find any tortilla chips without corn and/or wheat? So annoying so I guess if necessary I’ll just have to make my own.

After Whole Foods one very important thing was left on my list since I couldn’t find any at WFs. It drives me crazy that they change what they carry all the time but it worked out in my favor. Trader Joe’s isn’t too far out of the way so I made a super quick trip there and got…

Dolmas!!! Of course! I grabbed two because I know myself haha. I also picked up a back of roasted plantain chips. These things are AMAZING. Oh and TJs dolmas are almost half price of WFs. Just sayin.

After Trader Joe’s I came home, ate breakfast then started prepping for the week. I’ll show you breakfast in a bit but here’s what I made:

I don’t make the same mistake twice so I made a HUGE batch of Sauteed Chard. Three bunches of chard huge. Came out just as delicious as the last time and it’ll last me the week!

Another big ass batch of Cheesy Cauliflower Mash! Can’t go wrong with this delicious stuff!

I also made a big batch of my first attempt at gluten free lo mein ;) I used the buckwheat ramen noodles I bought last week along with onions, broccoli and shiitake mushrooms. I used the same seasonings as the greens and I think it came out good? The noodles are a little sticky and gummy but otherwise it should be ok. I’ll need a find a more sturdy noodle but the two servings I made for this week will be tasty with these ramen :)

So I have a great start for meals for this week and had some great meals today! For the rest of this incredibly long post I’ll be showing you those :)

For breakfast I had some of the Farmer’s Market granola with almond milk and strawberries. The strawberries were so delicious. I really don’t want to say this but I wish I could say the same about the granola. I feel so bad saying it but I think she used salted nuts and/or seeds so the granola was really salty. All I could taste was salt. I didn’t even finish the third of a cup that I had in the bowl and I don’t know if I’ll be eating it again. Which is kind of a huge waste because it was really expensive.

Lunch was my delicious Macro Sushi. So good. Haven’t had this for so long but I guess WFs started carrying it again. Maybe that’s what replaced the stuffed grape leaves lol.

Speaking of stuffed grape leaves… ;) An afternoon snack of stuffed grape leaves, veggie chips and hummus. Delicious.

For dinner I made 1/2 cup of gluten free pasta with cauliflower mash and greens. So freaking good.

And that’s finally the end of the post, ha! This one ended up being super long but I just had so much to show you! I hope you all are having a good Monday and I should be back tomorrow with more meals!

Have a great night!
