Vegan MoFo Day 12: Fun Friday MoFo Style!

Happy Friday Friends! I didn’t do a Fun Friday post last week because I was knee deep in recreations but I decided as I transition into my new theme of my cleanse, I figured I’d do a fun friday post! I’ll show you what diet I’m about to embark on and all of the recipes I happened to find right before and I can’t wait to make after! It seems kind of silly to be planning things to make after, but I’m also planning on making appropriate adjustments to the recipes so I don’t undo all of changes (hopefully!) that I accomplish.

So I’m going to be going on an Anti-Candida diet starting this Sunday. I have had a suspicion of yeast overgrowth for a while now. I decided to take this questionnaire to assess my symptoms. Well, I scored a 382. 85+ is considered severe. So I guess you can imagine part of my urgency to get this started. I’ve been getting headaches every day, nausea every day, I’ve had a hard time holding meals down (and sometimes I can’t, sorry if TMI), severe anxiety, joint and muscle discomfort, skin problems, and lots of other fun things. Clearly it was time to start making changes and thanks to the advice of Gabby, I decided to pick up the Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook. It is a bit overwhelming (500+ pages of info overwhelming) and the information is confusing and extensive, but I’m confident that I’ll figure it out. I liked this book because it focuses mostly on a veg lifestyle and gives you lots of veg options. A frustrating thing about this diet plan is that everyone will have different opinions about what you can and can’t eat. It is a pretty restrictive diet in the most strict phase of it, but the plan in this book seems doable. If I follow other plans I’ve read I’d be eating all veggies all the time and I feel like that can’t be healthy.

I’m going grocery shopping on Sunday and I’ll show you my haul of ACD food and supplements :)

And of course since I decided I wanted to do this diet (which I’ll explain in more detail on Sunday) I have found all of these amazing recipes that I want to try but will not be able to until I can add things back into my diet. I have pinned them all to revisit later though :) I figured I’d share them with you now though!


How gorgeous is this bowl of Cinnamon Bun Granola from Angela and Oh She Glows!? I have always loved granola but rarely ever eat it. I am also a total cinnamon freak. As I’m sure you can tell I add it to pretty much everything. When I saw this recipe I got so excited… and then a little sad that I’d have to wait so long to make it! Oh well, I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait!


How about this 5 Ingredient Pumpkin Fudge from Lauren at Oatmeal with a Fork? I can’t think of anything I’d rather have in my fridge than this gorgeous and tasty fudge. I have some pumpkin set aside to make it as soon as I can add sweet things back into my diet. Yum!

Oh Chocolate Covered Katie, how you spoil us! Pumpkin Pie Reeses!? I don’t even have words for how amazing this is.


Last but certainly not least is this gorgeous No Bake Pumpkin Mousse Cake from Gabby over at the Veggie Nook! I was so amped when she posted this gorgeous recipe! It is like a cross between pumpkin pie and pecan pie. Yum! Definitely must try this when I’m able to!

And speaking of the lovely Gabby, she is one of the hostesses of the Healthy Vegan Friday Blog Party that I participate in when I have a recipe yummy enough to submit. This week I submitted my Healthy Cookie Dough Sundae recipe!

So that’s all for today! Let’s drool over all of the yummy things I won’t be able to eat for a while but will definitely make at some point! I won’t be posting tomorrow since I have a wedding but I will be back on Sunday with an ACD grocery haul and some more specifics about what I will be eating on this diet.

  1. Wow, that’s rough. I’ve often considered doing an anti-candida cleanse but I do NOT have the willpower for that, especially since my reactions aren’t bad.
    Glad you seem to have pinpointed the issue though. I hope it works! I’ll be interested to see what you end up eating and making. Do you know the Diet, Dessert, and Dogs blog?
    How long will the cleanse/diet last? I wish you strength and health!

    • Thanks Maud. Yeah I’m not looking forward to this one and I’ve been putting it off for a while but the sicker I get the more I know I need to do it. I don’t know if this is even the problem but I’m just trying whatever I can to feel better.

      I do know of Diet Dessert and Dogs. I’ve been lurking on Ricki’s blog for a while and it will definitely be a great resource for me on this journey. I am planning on doing a 4 week strict cleanse to see how I feel and I’ll take it from there. I have heard it usually takes 1-3 months to make progress. More details on Sunday :)

  2. Best of luck on the anti-candida diet! I researched it pretty extensively because I suspected that I had it (before my hypothyroidism diagnosis) and Rowan has problems with secondary yeast infections from her allergies. It can be so confusing because, like you said, every source has a different opinion on what you should & shouldn’t eat. I hope you post a lot about it because I’m always looking to read more about it for Rowan’s sake. It’s helped her a lot so far!

    I’m going on over to the cinnamon bun granola link as soon as I post this comment. That looks so fantastic! That pumpkin baked french toast, too. Really, come on! Such a genius idea.

    • Thanks Molly! I’m hoping that this is the key because all of the extensive bloodwork has come back normal. The only thing that was abnormal was that my antibodies for connective tissue disease was slightly elevated but that wouldn’t cause all of the other symptoms I don’t think. I’m definitely planning on posting a lot because there is a lot of work that goes into this diet, not only with meals but with supplements and all natural anti fungal stuff. I’m hoping I found the key here because I just don’t know what else it could be.

      Doesn’t everything sound amazing! Oh man, I picked the wrong time to start this diet, ha!

  4. Oh my goodness! I didn’t realize how bad it had been for you. :( I love that you are taking charge of your health and trying out this cleanse. If anyone can stick to a tough phase, it would be you – I wish I had an ounce of your willpower and determination! I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that this change will help.

    • Yeah, it’s been pretty unpleasant lol. I even got sick at the wedding today with horrible stomach pains. Thanks, I’m trying! Sometimes you can’t wait for others to help, you just have to do it yourself. Thanks, me too!

  5. Good luck with your diet! I don’t know much about anti-Candida diets, but you must be on the right track if you scored so high on the questionnaire (wow!). I hope this diet isn’t too hard to stick with and your health problems clear up soon.

    Pumpkin fudge sounds wonderful. Of course you find all these recipes now when you’re trying to take care of yourself! Oh well, pumpkin is still in season next month. :)

  6. Each of those treats pictured look mouthwateringly good. So many great things can be done with pumpkin. Is pumpkin allowed on your new diet? I have heard of the anti-candida diet, and I think it’s probably pretty healthy, although restrictive. Good luck! I’m rooting for you!

    • Don’t they?! I love pumpkin, it is so versatile. I’m not sure if pumpkin is allowed, but the sweets and sugar certainly are now. Sadly. It is restrictive but if it gets me feeling well again I’m all for it. Thanks so much!

  7. I am wishing you so much luck on this anti-candida journey! I know you are going to rock it! Make sure to find loads of recipes you want to make that you CAN eat too! It will be so helpful if you can get excited for those recipes!

    • Thanks Gabby! Yes, definitely I already printed a bunch of Ricki’s recipes to try :) I think my biggest challenge is going to be eating savory breakfasts every day. Any breakfast advice for me?

  8. Oh man, desserts everywhere…and for you it’s all such a tease. :( How long until you can have sweets at all, is it a month or two? I’ve followed Ricki’s (DDD) blog for a long while now but I can’t quite remember the rules. The cleanse period will probably be tough, but knowing you, you’ll find a way to make the best of it!

    • Total tease haha. I’m definitely trying to make the best of it, going one day at a time! You are supposed to go I guess until you feel the difference, an average case being 1-3 months. I’m really hoping to be more toward the one month end of things because I’m not digging it haha!
