Grocery Haul and Illness

Hey guys. This is going to be a quick one because I’m home sick today :( I think I have some sort of sinus infection. Been getting bad headaches and my face is actually tender to the touch so I’m just trying to knock it out today. Haven’t posted in a while so I wanted to show you a little something so here is a grocery haul.

Produce: Sweet potatoes, baby spinach, bananas, oranges, carrots, granny smith apples and scallions.

Groceries: Daiya Cheddar, dates, gf oat flour, cacao powder, cashew milk (I’ve been dying to try this stuff), Good Belly shots with probiotics, black rice noodles (for soba like dishes), dry roasted peanuts and gluten free tortillas.

That’s all I have. As a side note, this will be the last time you’ll see a lot of these items in my grocery haul. I’m just about ready to try the Anti Candida diet again which means I’ll be cutting ALL sugars (including fruit and starchy veggies), soy, certain nuts, etc. I plan on sticking pretty closely to this list of Foods To Eat and this list of Foods to Avoid. I anticipate this being a challenge but I’m ready for it. I’m just very tired of being sick so hopefully this will be a key to feeling better.

  1. Looks like a great grocery haul! I’m so glad you will be able to try cashew milk! Wahoo!!! And I see you have dates too…and cacao powder…is someone planning on perhaps making some raw Snickers??? ;)

    I hope that adopting an Anti-Candida diet helps you! Hopefully it will and that perhaps it will allow your system to “reset”, so to speak, and then hopefully you can re-introduce certain foods (mainly fruit–YUM! but WAH! at not being able to have it :( ) back into your diet.

    Keep us all posted and rest up on this day off!!

    • The cashew milk was a bit of a splurge but I’ve heard from a bunch of people that it’s absolutely amazing and almost like a milk shake. I’m sure I’ll split it into two snacks since it seems rich. Haha am I that transparent? ;)

      I really hope so too. I think the worse my symptoms get the more apparent it seems to me that this change may just be exactly what I need. Yes, reintroducing fruit is definitely in the plan. In an ideal world I’ll keep it up for a few months then be ok to reintroduce fruit by summer! I don’t think I’ll be able to pass up berries and cherries and watermelon and mangoes ;)

  2. Oh my gosh! There are peanuts in the haul too! Okay, you’re totally making them. You will D.I.E. They’re ridic. I had one for lunch dessert today and then proceeded to go back and have another…and then another. No joke. At least they’re small so I don’t feel quite as guilty, lol! Ooh! And I personally like eating them right out of the freezer. It allows me to bit into the hardened (but not too hard) chocolate and into an explosion of creamy caramel and a chewy, peanut-y bottom layer. Perfect textures.

    Yeesh…now I want another one…

    • LOL!!! Yes, it is my plan to make them, hopefully before ACD. I couldn’t find lucuma powder at WFs though. I may have to switch it out for muscavado sugar which also has caramel undertones to it. Sugar isn’t ideal but it’s such a small amount I think it’ll be ok.

    • It used to be $8.99 but was $6.99 today which I know is ridiculous but I figured I’d splurge since I’ll be eating a very limited diet soon. Thanks!

  3. Delicious looking stuff. I was a little confused by the dry roasted peanuts but it seems the other comments have you pegged, ha!
    I’m sorry yr not feeling well. Beyond the raw snickers, everything else looks healthy and delicious. Hopefully that and some rest and you’ll be feeling well soon. I’m very intrigued with the black soba too!
    Let me know what you think of the GoodBelly shots I didn’t see those at the store, but the juice was good.

    • Thanks!! Haha yes Laura called it since it’s her recipe I’ll be using. The Snickers are surprisingly healthy (at least for a candy) and the portions are small so it’ll be a nice treat. Can’t wait to try the soba!

  4. I am envious of your grocery haul, I am in desperate need of one of those! Also I feel like you’ve been sick fairly frequently the last while, I’m really sorry about that. :(

    • Thanks! Yeah, been feeling shitty for a while but I’m hoping that the ACD cleanse will help me get back on track to feeling healthy.

  5. Boo! I hate sinus issues. I suffered (or, perhaps still am suffering) sinus related symptoms. Rest, humidifier, and heat wraps on the face (as well as a little ibuprofen) seem to help me slowly move out of it. I hope you don’t have to suffer much longer!!

    Wonderful haul! Are those carrots huge, or is it just that angle?! I love oat flour, and I’m curious about that cashew milk – let me know how it tastes!

    I hope the Anti-Candida cleanse will prove helpful! Minus the sinus stuff, are you feeling unwell? I hope not! I want so much for you to better!!

    • Sinus issues are the worst. Hope that you are feeling better, I know you haven’t been feeling well lately.

      Haha no the carrots are huge! 3 giant carrots lol. Oat flour is awesome and I am hoping to try the cashew milk tomorrow.

  6. The Candida Diet “foods to eat” list seems to allow for a lot of variety, but the “foods to avoid” list includes stuff that I don’t necessarily eat a lot of, but that I’d have trouble giving up. However, if this diet is what it takes for you start feeling better, I think you should go for it. Good luck.

    Great looking haul. I notice you captioned each photo listing the items clockwise. I don’t know why I noticed that, but I did. ;-)

    I hope you sinuses clear up soon too.

    • Yeah it’s very veggie friendly and does allow for gf grains with is great. It’ll be tough without fruit and beans but I’ll be able to make it through ;)

  7. I’m sorry to hear you have a sinus infection. :( It seems like a lot of people are getting those this year. My allergies have definitely been bothering me more than usual. It’s winter. We shouldn’t have to deal with sinus or allergy stuff!

    The produce all looks so good and the carrots look huge! Are the black rice noodles actually black? I’m looking forward to seeing what you make with those!

  8. Sorry about the sickness- feeling crappy seems to throw everything off balance.
    That blueprint cashew milk is mind- blowing awesome and worth every cent!! Also easy to make your own version, the google-er has recipes that come close. Hope the anti-candida clears up your problems, sounds like a tough diet to follow

    • Thanks, I agree. You get totally out of whack but I’m committed to pulling it all back together :)

      I’m going to drink the cashew milk tonight for dessert and I can’t wait!! It’ll be challenging but I’ll be ok :) I have some ideas for substitutions I can make so hopefully it’ll come together well!
