Catching Up!

Hey everyone! I think this is going to end up being a long post so there is fair warning up front ;) It’s been a few days since I’ve been on so I figured I’d just play a little catch up today.

First, Monday marked the last day of the Crazy Sexy Diet Cleanse. I didn’t do a great job of keeping you all up to speed with my progress but I think it went pretty well! I didn’t have as much success as the last time I tried it, and I think it’s because I had to flood my body with tons of disgusting shit for that stupid CT scan. I do plan on continuing to eat this clean, alkaline diet. The only thing that has been difficult is the morning drink since it’s SO COLD now! I may start my day with a warmer meal but still enjoy a juice or a smoothie later in the day. Anyway, I still recommend the cleanse, it’s always a great experience for me!

On Monday I went to a new specialist, a hematologist. My last round of blood testing at the rheumatologist showed an elevation in white blood cells so she recommended I see the hematologist. OMG what a nightmare! First, there was a woman hacking and coughing all over the waiting room and ended up eventually sitting next to me. I’ve never used so much sanitizer in a short period of time in my life. I was wishing for a bubble to sit in. Anyway, after waiting an hour and 15 minutes I finally got in and waited another 20 minutes for the dr. I had blood taken and waited another 15 minutes for the results… which were NORMAL. So while I’m obviously glad the results were fine, it was ridiculous that I was so stressed about it and wasted another few hours of my life. The hematologist also believes that it is still an autoimmune situation… I have my next appointment with the rheumatologist in 2 weeks.

OK now onto some fun stuff! Let’s check out some pics from the past few days!

This pic is for Shen! I found Eddie in his favorite spot multiple times during my stay there and snapped this fun pic of him :)

Some veggie soup I ate yesterday to deal with the frigid weather. I sit in the meeting point of two major drafts in the studio so I’m cold ALL THE TIME so warming meals like this are so necessary during the cold weather.

I went to Whole Foods today and picked up mostly the same stuff as always, but also decided to pick up some kombucha. I saw the Third Eye Chai flavor and HAD to try it and figured I’d give the mango a try as well. I got carded to buy the chai flavor. Is this stuff actually boozy or is it just over some borderline amount and they have to? Seems kind of silly.

Also picked up some Mochi! I’ve had it before and liked it so I thought it would be fun to experiment with it. I have some plans ;)

After I got home from Whole Foods (and realized I forgot to buy the only two things on my grocery list, wah!) I decided to make a batch of oat free granola inspired by Laura.

I have other pics of it that won’t upload right now for some reason. My internet connection is so horrendous at home. Anyway, it came out pretty good but didn’t clump together that well. I used almonds, walnuts, coconut, hemp seeds, raisins, dates, coconut, coconut extract and cinnamon. Laura, do you have a recipe for yours? It was SOOOOOO good!

So finally, the big announcement!! A friend of mine has agreed to be my podcast co-host!! Her name is Vanessa and she is AWESOME. We call ourselves Team Chaos because it is always disaster when we are together… which is why we are a perfect podcasting pair :) We don’t have an expected date for our first episode just yet because we are still working on logistics but we are SO EXCITED.

Our first episode will be a getting to know you kind of deal so I thought it would be fun to ask all of you what you think would be fun to hear on that first episode? Any funny icebreaker questions you remember from back in college or some stupid workshop that you had to participate in? Any questions for us just out of curiosity? Please feel free to comment with any questions (the more the merrier!) or you can tweet us @TeamXChaos.

I absolutely can’t wait to get started on this fun project! It is going to be just us shooting the shit on random topics. We hope to make you laugh, we may vent a little bit and it’s going to be fun for us to just get together and chat.

That’s all for this giant post! I hope you are all having a good hump day! Have a great day/evening!

CSD Cleanse: Day 13

Hey guys! I know I haven’t been around much but I’ve just been really busy with cleansing and working and whatnot. I started a regular cardio routine as well and it feels good to at least get moving again. I’m also going to do my first training session on Friday too! I’m only going back once a week for now and I’m not doing boxing yet since my shoulder is still jacked… but it’ll be really great for me emotionally so I’m really excited!

Tomorrow is my CT scan. I’ll be enjoying a breakfast of champions of 2 bottles of contrast followed by an IV drip dessert. Awesome. I see a lot of green juices and smoothies in my future to flush that crap out of me. I hope to feel ok enough to get some cardio in tomorrow evening.

My cleanse has been going well but I haven’t been eating anything crazy. Here are the meals I enjoyed today. There was also an unpictured green juice.

Morning glory waffle with too much maple syrup. It came out so quick. It was still delicious though :)

This is a pic I too earlier in the week but lunch was the same meal so I am using this one. Two zucchini cakes with a big ol’ carrot and some roasted cauliflower.

My brother, sister in law and niece are going to Texas to visit her family next week so we went over to their house for dinner tonight to see them before they go. I had a delicious dinner of roasted veggies and cucumber salad. It was really great.

Snacks in between included raw almonds and a green juice.

That’s all that’s happening now. Lots going on but I’m definitely trying to keep a positive, optimistic attitude :) I hope you are all doing well! I’m going to try my best to post a few more times next week.

Have a great night!

CSD Cleanse: Day 9

Hey everyone. Today’s post is going to be quick. Got some blood test results and I’m not happy… kinda stressed actually. Another specialist. Not really feeling like talking about it right now so I’ll just show you some groceries and a dish I made today.

Carrots, romaine, baby spinach, pomegranates, and lots of cucumbers.

Frozen cherries and blueberries, acai smoothie packs, gluten free brown rice bread and a Kit’s Organic Bar in a chocolate almond coconut flavor. Had that as a snack it was really good.

After Whole Foods I went to the gym and put in an hour of cardio. After my shower I decided to try this:

Ricki’s Zucchini Fritters! Clean and gluten free recipe, should be CSD approved. I made a few seasoning changes to the recipe. I didn’t use tarragon but added black pepper, garlic and nutritional yeast. They came out great!

That’s all for tonight. Going to relax and catch up on your posts. Hope you have a great night.

CSD Cleanse: Day 6

Hey everyone! Happy Sunday! I hope you all had a great weekend! Yesterday ended up being a very busy day so I didn’t get a chance to get on here but you didn’t miss anything new or interesting :) I’m sorry I didn’t say ahead of time I wasn’t going to be posting every day. I’m trying to deal with anxiety issues again and I decided to take the stress of posting every day off of my shoulders and I think it’s been helping a little.

The cleanse has been going well! I’m enjoying everything I’m eating (and drinking!) and I feel good! I’m going to the Dr. again tomorrow so we’ll see what kinds of tests I’ll be going through but I guess I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing. I’ve been reading up on connective tissue disease (which is what my test results are pointing to but I don’t have all of the positive results necessary to actually make a diagnosis) and it seems that they are progressive diseases and it may take years for tests to come up positive (if I do indeed have a connective tissue disease). I’m guessing that’s why my Dr. keeps testing me for the same things so I am starting to understand. We’ll see what else we come up with!

Anyway, here’s the yummy stuff I ate today!

I got out of bed late today so rather than fuss with a green juice I decided to brunch it up with some avocado toast. 1/2 avocado split over 2 slices gf toast with sea salt and pepper. Simple, filling and delicious.

Lunch was an S&M salad. More avocado. I’m ok with it. ;)

In the afternoon I made myself a nice glass of carrot apple juice. It was SO FREAKING GOOD! I decided to keep it classy and drink from a wine glass (inspired by one of the guys from Impractical Jokers). There was another half a glass enjoyed after this one.

I kept the pulp because I have some plans for it :) Check out how dry it is too! This juicer is really great, very powerful!

Sorry for another recycled image but I chowed down on dinner before I could photograph it. I had a similar sandwich one a gf wrap with hummus and tons of fresh veggies. Delicious!

That’s all for today! I’m debating if I want to make tomorrow a juice cleanse day like Kris Carr suggests. It’s an option since I have Mondays off. I’ll be ok to get blood drawn after just drinking juice right? I don’t typically get light headed or anything from it so I think I should be fine. Thoughts?

Have a great night friends!

CSD Cleanse: Day 4

Hey everyone. Sorry I didn’t post yesterday. As you may recall, the third day of my cleanses tend to be pretty brutal and I didn’t eat anything new or interesting so I skipped the post. There’s nothing new or interesting today either but oh well!

More juice, the same recipe I used that other day. Still delicious!

Simple stir fry for lunch.

Sorry for the recycled pic but dinner will look exactly like this. Salad with sun dried tomatoes, portobellos, cucumber and carrot. Yum!

I read somewhere that they are tearing down the boardwalk in Long Beach this weekend. It’s such a sad story since I can pretty much assure you that every single person on Long Island has a lot of great memories at the boardwalk, myself included. Hopefully they’ll be able to rebuild and we can all enjoy it again soon.

Sorry for the short post, just a busy night. Hope you all have a great night, hopefully I’ll be able to pop in tomorrow, if not then definitely Sunday!

CSD Cleanse: Day 2

Hey friends!! Quick post today because I have to still get ready for work. I spent all morning preparing my meals for the day. It’s a lot of time and work but it’s so worth it when I look at what I get to eat later :) Still feeling good and my belly is full after my late morning snack. Shall we get to it?

Check it out!! My very first green juice and also my first time using my new juicer! I think it came out great! I used the Morning Glorious juice recipe from Crazy Sexy Kitchen and it is absolutely delicious. It has romaine, kale, celery, cucumber, granny smith apple and some lemon juice. Isn’t it pretty!? I wasn’t sure what to expect when I tasted it but I really really enjoyed it. I don’t know how I’ll do with straight up veggie juice when I cut the fruit but I guess I’ll see when the time comes :)

As a late morning snack I enjoyed the return of avocado toast! I used gluten free brown rice bread (toasted of course), a quarter of an avocado and sprinkled with a little sea salt and black pepper. I’ve missed this! So simple and delicious!

For lunch I made another raw caesar salad with cooked tofu croutons. I mixed romaine and kale together for the salad and it looks awesome, it’s going to be so good!

For dinner I threw together a quick bowl. There is about a half cup of brown rice at the bottom, lots of lightly steamed green veggies on top of that and it’s all topped with a clean tomato sauce and some nooch. I’m planning on making some marinara sauce on my own but I wanted to use this up and it was organic and clean so there it is :)

In looking at all of the photos together I’m loving how green today’s meals look! I also realized today while juicing that since it is so time consuming I probably won’t be able to juice when I have an early start at work but I should be able to at least 4 days a week hopefully! Baby steps, right?

OK, time for me to finish getting ready for work :) I hope you all have a great day today!

Crazy Sexy Diet Cleanse: My Final Thoughts!

Hey everyone! I decided that I would give my thoughts about the 21 day cleanse I just finished. I’ve learned a lot in the past 3 weeks and I feel like it has changed my life for the better. I know it seems silly and a bit corny but it is the truth. I guess I’ll just go through what I’ve experienced and talk about the physical and emotional changes I’ve made!

Well, I guess it is clear that there is a pretty good chance you will lose weight eating this way. This was a huge deal for me because I’ve been stuck at a plateau for way too long. Shaking up my eating has changed the way my body works. I eat more often now, eat a high volume of alkaline foods and eat foods that are easily used by my body for fuel. My body is working way more efficiently now and I feel amazing. It will be so huge in my Tough Mudder training and I’m so happy about it!

Another really great physical benefit I’m experiencing after this cleanse which I briefly mentioned yesterday is that my skin has cleared up a lot and is glowing. I’m not a huge fan of heavy makeup and I rarely wear makeup at all, and now I don’t feel so self conscious about not wearing it.

I think you can tell in this photo? It’s just the black and white version of the one I posted yesterday. It is amazing what a few small changes can make!
I think the biggest changes that I’ve experienced in this cleanse are actually the mental/emotional changes that I’ve made and the soul searching that I’ve done through Kris Carr’s exercises. Before I started this cleanse I felt stuck in my situation and now I’m dreaming bigger and I’m believing that if I work hard I can achieve whatever I want. I’m allowing myself to acknowledge what I want, not feel guilty for wanting something different and to take steps to achieve it. This is a really huge revelation for me.
I’ve learned that life won’t stop for me so I just have to get on board and roll with it. I need to make the most of my time now and that is what I intend on doing. I need to be good to myself. I work VERY hard and rarely do anything for myself and that needs to change. I deserve it and I owe it to myself to enjoy the free time that I do have because even if it’s a few hours or even a few minutes, I’ll never get that time back.
After combining proper nutrition with physical activity I’m finally starting to realize that if I put the time and work in, I can achieve anything. I’m still afraid of Tough Mudder, but I truly believe that I will be able to do it. It will probably be the biggest test of will that I’ve experienced but I’m ready for it! :)
If I ever hit a wall with my running I’m going to look at this picture. Great motivation! :)
Finally, one of my favorite things that I’m taking from this cleanse is that I now crave foods that are good for me! Healthy eating has now become a habit for me and I crave fresh fruits and veggies and I love that! I’m so excited to experiment with my dehydrator and it has even changed my thinking on what kind of business I’d like to have one day!
I guess you can tell that I am so happy that I did this cleanse and that my life has truly changed from it. I plan on trying to keep up the high raw lifestyle. I have no intentions of going 100% raw but I feel great and I want to stay this way. I highly recommend the book and the cleanse to anyone that is looking for a change. When I started this cleanse I felt like crap all the time. Now I have energy, my mood is better and I’m craving healthy foods and an active lifestyle.
That being said, I am definitely not going to promise that I won’t indulge once in a while. I will just make sure to balance those indulges with alkaline, whole foods :) I’ll probably still have one decaf coffee a month as well. Because coffee is delicious.
So on a totally different note, my friend is going to be in town at the end of the month when I’m house sitting for my brother and I told her and her fiance to come over and I’m going to cook a nice vegan dinner for us! I’m so excited because I miss her and it’ll be nice to cook a delicious meal for everyone. I’m really looking forward to it and I think I already know what I’m going to make :) Just have to pick a dessert recipe. I think I want to try a raw dessert from Ani Phyo’s dessert cookbook.
That’s all she wrote on the cleanse! I’m glad I actually made it through this time and didn’t get bronchitis. I have to work a wedding today and plan on being productive tomorrow. I have to get groceries and plan on trying more dehydrator experiments! Hopefully they come out better this time and I’ll have recipes to share!
Have a great Saturday!

Crazy Sexy Diet Cleanse Take 2: Day 20!!

Hey everyone! I can’t believe I’m finishing up Day 20 of my cleanse already! I’m sorry I didn’t post yesterday but my long day got the better of me. Things are going great though, I’ve been so successful with this cleanse and I’m really happy about it! Even though tomorrow is the last day I’m still planning on doing my Fun Friday post so I’ll wrap up the cleanse on Saturday. I’m working on Saturday which works out well since I’ll be able to show you Friday’s meals then :)

I’ve decided on a new workout plan starting next week. I’m going to run in the morning 5x per week and I’m going to do fight training/strength training at least 4x per week. I plan on doing a few 2 a days (Mondays, Thursday and Fridays) and Tuesday and Saturday I will do cardio and strength together. I may just do 3 days of running that first week just to get acclimated to the 2 a day situation but I’m planning on going into beast mode so soon!

Nothing too exciting to show meal wise today but I’ll show you what I photographed. I’m trying something out tonight and I’ll post the review and results tomorrow! You’ll have to stay tuned!

OK, so here’s what I’ve eaten/photographed today:

Smoothie to go! I was inspired by Shen‘s breakfast on the go photos ;)

Lunch was a salad that I had to eat with chopsticks because we had no forks. It was fun!
A super close up of my Mexican Quinoa Bowl. I love this as a high protein post workout meal. Yum!
Ok, that’s all for now! So glad tomorrow is friday even though I have a wedding on Saturday. I hope you all have a great night and that you Friday goes quickly for you! Last day of the cleanse tomorrow!

Crazy Sexy Diet Cleanse Take 2: Day 18

Hey everyone! Hope all is well you all of you :) Another early post because I work until 9 tonight. Didn’t get to work out today because I had to get my blood drawn at 10 and it was fasting so I didn’t think it was a good idea to work out before and there isn’t enough time to now. I’m ok with that :) A rest day is totally necessary and I plan on beasting out the rest of the week, ha!

So I’m on Day 18 of this cleanse and haven’t really discussed much except the food I’ve been eating. One reason I love Crazy Sexy Diet is because it talks about a total mind, body and soul makeover in order to achieve your best health and life. You meditate, dry brush, do exercises in forgiveness and love and today’s task: create a Vision Board for your future. Kris Carr says, “Vision boards help focus our intentions so that we can manifest our desires.” I love this idea and this exercise. I’ve recently been thinking about where I am now and where I want to be in the future and the two don’t match up. At all. So this vision board is the perfect way for me to really focus on what it is that I want to achieve in my life. I decided that instead of showing you the same food, I’d share some of my Vision Board with you.

I included this in my vision board because I’ve spent a lot of time in my life putting things off until I have more time, more money, more energy, more ____________. It’s time to stop making excuses and to live because time is passing me by and I deserve to enjoy every minute of my time.

I know that this photo seems obvious because of my love of beach cruisers and how much I want one but it goes a bit deeper than that. I would eventually like to do most of my commuting by bike. It’s good for my health, good for my mind (driving really stresses me out), and good for my wallet. I think I’ll explore more and be more mindful of my surroundings.

This one is pretty clear. I want to live on the beach. I see living in the beach in my future. A beautiful home like this is the representation of a dream. A dream that I’m really going to try and achieve.

I LOVE this photo and the saying. By living this clean and healthy lifestyle, training for Tough Mudder, exploring my dreams and desires and working to achieve them, I’m making myself extraordinary. By constantly looking inside myself and seeing how I can make myself and my life better, I’m making myself extraordinary.

This is a great summary of some of the things I want in my life. Sure some of it is vague but they are guidelines to understanding how to push myself in my future. They will define themselves in time.
Something that I have not found a photo representation of is my desire to be my own boss and have a vegan baking venture. To be specific, I’d love to have a place selling my treats at a Farmers Market. I love the community of Farmers Markets and would love to be a part of one. It’s something that I am definitely working toward.
I’ve started my Vision Board on Pinterest. Ah the wonders of technology ;) I’m planning on making a tangible Vision Board as well so I can have that constant reminder of what I’m working toward. When I make it I will share it with all of you. I encourage you to think about making a vision board too. It is one of the most valuable things I’ve done with this cleanse.
So, I mentioned yesterday how I felt spoiled by my friend with the mustache cookie cutters. Well now I feel REALLY spoiled because I received a really lovely and thoughtful care package from Ingrid!! Thank you so much Ingrid! I feel very spoiled you are so awesome!
A cute cookbook called Alive in 5 which features raw recipes that can be made in minutes! This is so perfect for me since I’m always in a rush! I can’t wait to try these recipes :) There is also a packet of quinoa, some Sea Tangle seaweed snacks (you know how much I love my seaweed snacks!), some gluten free lasagna noodles (we had talked about it a while ago that I couldn’t find any and she remembered and got me some! Can’t wait to try them!) and a really yummy looking Cacao Crunch chocolate bar! Yum!
Thank you so much Ingrid, you are so thoughtful and kind!
That’s all for me today! I hope you all have a great day and I’ll be back tomorrow with some food! I’m in the home stretch!

Crazy Sexy Diet Cleanse Take 2: Day 17

Hey everyone! Day 17, I can’t believe it! This cleanse has gone by pretty quickly! Anyway, I hope you all had a good Monday. I had a short day of work then I had an appointment with my doctor. She is sending me for bloodwork which I’ll have done tomorrow and has told me that she really wants me to give the anti inflammatory meds a chance to work. I am not thrilled about taking them but I’ll give it a try for a few weeks. I’m going to finish up the cleanse before I start them though since I have such a short amount of time left!

I feel so spoiled! I came home from my appointment to find a totally unexpected package from one of my friends! I’ve known her since college and she is so amazing and one of my favorite people on the planet. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding last summer and she lives in Chicago now. Check out what she sent me!

Munchstaches!

Yes my friends, these are mustache cookie cutters/cookie stamps! She sent a cute little note with them saying that she saw these and knew they needed a good home and that I would provide them with one :) How awesome is she! And yes, they will have a great home here! I’m going to send her a batch as a thank you :)
OK only took a few pics of meals today… you are missing a smoothie and a salad. You’ve seen it all before.
Hooray for the return of avocado toast! Yum!

The other piece of my spring roll.
And my epic dehydrator fail.

These veggie chips (sweet potato, zucchini and beet) look really pretty and yummy…

…but they taste like crap! They never got crispy, the beets are super bitter, the sweet potato tastes like bendy cardboard. The only one worth trying again is the zucchini. I only seasoned them with salt and maybe that was my problem? I didn’t taste salt at all. So gross.
I guess I’ll have to try the kale chips and I also want to try to come up with a raw granola recipe. That’s next on tap!
My blood tests have to be done on a 12 hour fast so I won’t be eating breakfast til after 11 probably. I’ll also probably be eating more of the same because I’ll be rushing around so my post may or may not include food. It will be cleanse related though!
I hope you have a great night! My trainer and I are working on strengthening my shoulders and doing some extra stretches at the beginning of our workouts. We’ll see if the anti inflammatory works too. For now I’ll keep running and trucking along. 141 days ;)
